Asda Mobile is one of many MVNOs (mobile virtual network operators) in the UK, meaning it’s one of the many mobile networks that doesn’t have its own spectrum and masts, and instead partners with a major network to provide coverage.
In this case, Asda Mobile has partnered with Vodafone, meaning the two networks should have identical coverage. But Asda Mobile also has its own advantages and drawbacks, so for more details on its main selling points, its types of coverage, and more, read on.
Asda Mobile offers 5G as standard, but if you’re in a place with no 5G coverage then you’ll instead be able to make use of 4G and 2G.
What you won’t be able to use is 3G, as Vodafone – the network Asda Mobile has partnered with – has shut off its 3G service. That’s because it wants to focus its efforts on improving its 4G and 5G networks, and it’s something the UK’s other mobile networks are also doing.
Asda Mobile might be particularly appealing to regular Asda shoppers, as its 12 and 24-month SIM Only plans can give you up to 5% of your monthly bill back in your Asda Reward Cashpot. Not all plans give you as much as 5% though, so check the details of the plan you’re buying.
You also get data rollover on Asda Mobile’s SIM Only plans, so if you don’t use all of your data, you’ll have a second month to get through it rather than instantly losing it at the end of the month.
Plus, Asda Mobile’s plans come with unlimited minutes and texts, and you can get up to unlimited data. There are also Pay As You Go plans as well as SIM Only, and if you need a new handset, you can buy a phone from Asda Mobile on monthly instalments.
Asda Mobile also offers Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling, and tethering, and you can roam at no extra cost in 46 European countries (up to a fair usage limit of 5GB).
If you head to Asda Mobile’s coverage checker and enter the postcode you want to check, then not only will you be shown the network’s 5G, 4G, and 2G coverage in that area, but you’ll also be shown if there are any known network disruptions.
Of course, it’s possible that there could be an issue that Asda Mobile isn’t aware of yet, so if you suspect there’s a network problem but aren’t seeing one reflected there, it’s also worth heading to Asda Mobile’s Downdetector page, to see if other customers are reporting network issues.
There are many potential ways to improve your Asda Mobile signal, but it will depend on what the cause of the signal problems is.
If you’re simply in an area where Asda Mobile has little or no coverage, then there’s not much to be done – but you can always use Wi-Fi Calling if there’s a Wi-Fi network available. This will let you use a Wi-Fi network rather than the mobile network to call and text.
That’s also a good temporary solution if you’re somewhere that should have coverage but is currently having network issues.
However, if you’re in an area that should have coverage and where Asda Mobile isn’t reporting any network disruptions, then the problem might be one you can fix or at least diagnose yourself.
The most likely issue in that instance is your own phone, so to try and fix things, turn airplane mode on and then off again, and if that doesn’t change things, turn your phone off and then on again.
That might be all it takes, but you could also try charging your phone if the battery is low, and installing any available software updates for it if the software isn’t up to date.
If none of that helps then it’s probably not your phone that’s the culprit, so the next step is to take a look at your surroundings. Are you inside? If so, is it a building where you know you normally have signal? If not, then the walls of the building could be obstructing the signal, so you could try heading outside or to a different part of the building.
On a similar note, if you’re by a temporary structure, under thick tree cover, or near other potential obstacles to a phone signal, you could try moving away from these areas.
Bad weather can also affect phone signal, so if there’s a storm or similar then the signal might improve after the weather clears up.
And finally, if none of the above helps or applies, then you could try contacting Asda Mobile for assistance. Just dial 0808 006 2732.
Vodafone of course has the same network, since it’s Vodafone that Asda Mobile is using. But as well as that, Lebara, Talkmobile, and VOXI also use Vodafone’s network and therefore have the same coverage.
Like other UK networks, Asda Mobile itself doesn’t have coverage abroad, but you can still use your phone abroad as Asda Mobile has roaming agreements with foreign networks.
And if you’re in one of 46 included countries in Europe, you won’t have to pay extra (up to a 5GB fair usage limit).
