Vodafone Coverage

Vodafone is a major UK network with extensive infrastructure and coverage. It has over 18 million customers and over 400 retail stores, so it’s a popular choice, along with the other three major networks, namely EE, Three, and O2.

As with the other major UK networks, Vodafone also sells a wide selection of plans and offers numerous perks, so it’s got a lot going for it.

Below, you’ll find more details of those perks, along with the kinds of coverage Vodafone offers, and tips on checking and improving your Vodafone signal.

What types of mobile coverage does Vodafone have?

Vodafone has 5G, 4G, and 2G coverage but no 3G, having switched this off to focus on more modern network technologies. It’s worth noting though that the other UK networks have either done the same or are in the process of doing so.

Vodafone also offers 5G Standalone (marketed by the network as 5G Ultra) in select locations. This is a form of 5G that doesn’t rely on a legacy core network from the 4G days. Rather, it’s built from the ground up for 5G, allowing for higher speeds, greater reliability, and better coverage than 5G Non-Standalone.

Most of the time, when a network mentions ‘5G’, it means 5G Non-Standalone, but Vodafone, EE, and O2 are all in the process of expanding the coverage of their 5G Standalone networks, to make them more widely available.

What are the selling points of Vodafone?

Perhaps the biggest selling point of Vodafone is that some of its plans include a subscription for the duration, with you currently able to choose between Disney Plus Premium, Amazon Prime, and YouTube Premium.

But Vodafone also has other perks, with some plans also giving you inclusive roaming, and 500 international minutes to call the EU with.

These are premium plans, but whichever plan you choose, you’ll get access to VeryMe Rewards. This is a rewards service, giving Vodafone customers access to discounts, freebies, and competitions.

And Vodafone sells a wide selection of plans, including Pay Monthly handset plans, SIM Only plans, Pay As You Go, data-only, mobile broadband, home broadband, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops.

Plus, you can get up to unlimited data, and Vodafone offers Wi-Fi Calling, 4G Calling, tethering, eSIMs, and discounts on additional plans.

How can I check Vodafone’s network status?

To check Vodafone’s network status, just head to Vodafone’s network status checker and enter the postcode you want to check. That will then show a map with Vodafone’s coverage along with any known issues.

If you’re having network issues but nothing is showing on that page, you could check Vodafone’s Downdetector page to see if other customers are reporting issues.

What can I do to improve signal?

If Vodafone’s network is having issues, then you might not be able to do anything to improve the signal as such, but you could always use Wi-Fi Calling if you’re somewhere with Wi-Fi. This allows you to seamlessly call and text as normal over a Wi-Fi network, so it’s a good temporary solution while you wait for Vodafone to fix its issues.

If Vodafone isn’t reporting any issues but you’re still struggling to get a signal then Wi-Fi Calling could also help, but in that case, there are other things you can try too.

For one thing, you could try turning airplane mode on and off again on your phone and see if that clears up any issues. If that doesn’t help, you could similarly try turning your phone off and on again. It’s also worth making sure the software is up to date and charging your phone if the battery is low, as these things can all affect signal.

Alternatively, your environment could be the issue. Certain building materials can block signal, so if you’re in a building, you could try heading outside to see if that helps. If there is thick tree cover, a temporary structure, or anything else that might block signals nearby then you could also try moving away from that.

Bad weather can also have an impact, as can network congestion if for example you’re in a very busy area.

What other networks use Vodafone’s network?

Asda Mobile, Lebara, Talkmobile, and VOXI have identical coverage to Vodafone, as they use this network’s infrastructure and spectrum. In the case of Asda Mobile and Lebara they’re leasing it, while in the case of Talkmobile and VOXI they’re owned by Vodafone.

Does Vodafone have coverage abroad?

If you’re a Vodafone customer, then you’ll be able to use your phone abroad by connecting to Vodafone’s partner networks in other countries. This is automatic and is known as ‘roaming’.

However, while roaming comes at no extra cost – in either 51 European destinations or 83 worldwide destinations – on some plans (up to a 25GB fair usage limit), on others it costs extra.
