Lebara Mobile Coverage

Lebara is an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) that has the same coverage as Vodafone. The network formed all the way back in 2001, and while its specialty is international calls, it’s well worth considering even if you don’t call abroad, as it has a lot of other advantages too.

Below, you’ll find more information on the types of coverage that Lebara has, along with its key selling points, its coverage abroad, how to check its network status, and what you can do to improve your signal.

What types of mobile coverage does Lebara have?

Lebara – like Vodafone – has 5G, 4G, and 2G coverage. As with most of the UK’s networks there’s no longer any 3G available here, as it has been switched off so that 4G and 5G can be more fully prioritised.

What are the selling points of Lebara?

Lebara has a number of selling points, but it stands out primarily as a network for international calls, with its plans including minutes that you can use to call over 50 countries. You can get between 100 and unlimited such minutes depending on your plan.

Specifically, its current plans include minutes to: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine, and the US.

Lebara also extends its international focus into roaming, which as well as being included in the EU is also included in China and India (up to a 30GB fair usage limit). That’s notable as while inclusive EU roaming is common, it’s rare to be able to roam in China or India at no extra cost.

Beyond that, Lebara’s plans mostly come with unlimited minutes and texts, and you can also get up to unlimited data. You can get flexible 30-day rolling plans with no credit checks, or choose a 12-month plan with 10% lower prices (and still no credit checks). All that, and Lebara also allows for tethering, Wi-Fi Calling, and 4G Calling.

However, you’re limited to SIM Only plans on Lebara, so if you want a phone on contract, a Pay As You Go plan, or a mobile broadband plan, then you’ll have to look elsewhere.

How can I check Lebara’s network status?

You can head to Lebara’s network coverage page to check its network status. As well as showing 5G, 4G, and 2G coverage, it will also mention if there are any known network issues. Just enter your postcode to see data for that area.

That should be your first stop, but if no issues are mentioned then you might also want to head to Lebara’s Downdetector page, to see if users are reporting network problems.

What can I do to improve signal?

There are many ways you can potentially improve your signal if needed, but it will depend on what the cause of your signal issues are.

It could be that the network itself is having problems, in which case it’s likely one of the links above will show this. If that’s the case then assuming you’re somewhere with Wi-Fi, you could make use of Wi-Fi Calling until the problem is resolved.

Wi-Fi Calling – despite the name – isn’t limited to calls. Rather, it lets you keep using your phone as normal, including making and receiving calls, and sending and receiving texts.

But if it’s not the network itself that’s at fault, then as well as turning to Wi-Fi Calling you might also have other options.

For one thing, you could see if turning airplane mode on and then off again on your phone helps, and similarly see if turning your phone off and on again makes any difference. You should also charge your phone if the battery is low, and install any software updates that are available for it, as these things can all potentially help with signal.

If you’re inside, you could try moving outside or even to a different part of the building, as sometimes walls can obstruct signal, and similarly if you’re under thick tree cover or next to a temporary structure you could try moving away from those areas. You might also find that the weather is affecting the signal – though only if there’s a storm or other bad weather.

And if all else fails you can always contact Lebara for help. Just dial 5588 from your Lebara SIM card or 0207 0310791 from any other phone.

What other networks use Lebara’s network?

Lebara uses Vodafone’s network and it’s not alone in that, as Asda Mobile, Talkmobile, VOXI, and of course Vodafone itself also do.

Does Lebara have coverage abroad?

If you’re roaming abroad as a Lebara customer then you’ll seamlessly be connected to partner networks, and if you’re roaming in the EU, China, or India then you won’t even have to pay any extra to access your allowances (up to a 30GB fair usage limit).
