Real-time data

Our site uses real-time data meaning the results you get are an accurate representation of the current situation in your area. There are data sources that are only updated periodically, but we choose not to include them because they can deliver outdated inaccurate results.

Multiple data sources

We combine data taken directly from the mobile networks with that gathered by independent sources to provide you with accurate coverage information.

3G, 4G and 5G coverage

In an ideal world every area would have high-speed 5G coverage, but we know that isn't the case, so we've also included Voice, 3G and 4G data. We've also broken each down into indoor and outdoor coverage, as there can be significant performance differences between the two.

All UK networks included

Data is included from all four of the major mobile networks in the UK, which are EE, O2, Vodafone and Three. Additionally, we've included MVNO networks that "piggyback" on the main networks, as they have the same coverage as the main networks and can offer better value plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I check mobile coverage?

In order to check mobile coverage in your area simply enter your postcode in our coverage checker.

We'll then show you mobile coverage with a signal strength for Voice, 3G, 4G and 5G on all of the UK networks.

We also recommend clicking the link to the networks coverage map to get a detailed look at coverage in your area and the surrounding areas. It might also be worth considering checking coverage in other places you regularly visit, such as your workplace.

What are the different types of mobile coverage?

  • Voice (2G)

This is the fallback legacy network that is used to make voice calls when other network technologies are not available.  2G networks will be switched off in the UK by 2033, but many networks are likely to do so before this time to free up spectrum to use in newer 4G and 5G technologies.

  • 3G

Three were the first network to launch 3G in the back in 2003. It provided faster speeds and enabled video-calling and web-browsing on mobile phones. However, it has now been superceded by 4G and 5G technologies and major UK networks have begun switching off 3G networks across the UK. Again, this is so they can reuse the spectrum in newer technologies, such as 4G and 5G.

  • 4G

EE were the first network to launch 4G in 2012. It built on 3G technology and enables faster speeds (up to 150Mbps) and enabled video-streaming in high quality on mobile devices. It's still an important network technology in the UK as many of the newer 5G networks are still using upgraded 4G infrastructure.

  • 5G

5G is the latest available mobile technology and delivers even faster speeds (up to 20Gbps), lower latency and greater reliability. However, coverage is still rolling out and the goverment has set a target that “all populated areas in the UK, including rural communities, to have standalone 5G coverage by 2030.".

What mobile providers are there in the UK?

There are four providers in the UK that build and own their own networks in the UK, which are EE, O2, Three and Vodafone.

However, it's not quite that simple as there also providers, called MVNOs,  which lease network capacity from the four main network providers. In theory this gives them the same coverage as the core networks, although sometimes speeds or access in busy periods may differ.

  • EE - Networks using EE include 1pMobile, Lyca Mobile and Spusu.
  • O2 - Networks using O2 include GiffGaff, Sky Mobile and Tesco Mobile
  • Three - Networks using Three include iD Mobile and Smarty
  • Vodafone - Networks using Vodafone include Asda Mobile, Lebara Mobile, Talkmobile and Voxi

Can i view coverage maps for each network?

Yes, after using our coverage checker you can quickly and easily view coverage maps for any network by clicking the "View Map" button.

This will give you a detail look at coverage in your postcode and the surrounding areas.

What affects my mobile signal?

  • Distance from a mobile mast

The further you are from the nearest mobile mast the worse your signal is likely to be.

  • Thick walls and windows

Indoor coverage is impacted if you have thick walls and windows.

  • Lots of trees

If you are surrounded by lots of thick tree cover then your mobile signal is likely to be impacted

  • Network congestions

Mobile coverage often dips as more people use the network, so if you live in a congested area this could be a factor

  • Using an older mobile phone

To get the best possible coverage you need to make sure you use a device that supports the latest network technology, particularly 4G and 5G.

  • Bad weather

Heavy rain, window and snow can negatively impact on mobile coverage.
